This Sept. 9-13 is the inaugural Houston Energy and Climate Startup Week, a major milestone in Houston’s leadership of the energy transition! Here's what you need to know and how to make the most of the week:

WHO?
Greentown is proudly launching this week with Halliburton Labs and The Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship! With engagement from The Houston Energy Transition Initiative, The Ion, Activate, and Digital Wildcatters, we are excited for this to be an ecosystem-wide event involving folks from all facets of the energy transition.

WHAT?
The Houston Energy and Climate Startup Week is bringing together top energy and climate investors, industry leaders, and startups from around the world to showcase the most innovative companies and technologies that are transforming the energy industry while driving a sustainable, low-carbon-energy future. Throughout the week, climatetech startups will have the opportunity to present their technologies and solutions to investors, prospective strategic partners, and other key leaders.

WHEN + WHERE?
The week will take place Sept. 9-13, with a wide variety of events happening throughout at various locations. You can view the full schedule and register for events here!

WHY?
Houston is a city unlike any other that's uniquely positioned to be the energy-transition capital of the world. Our region’s climatetech ecosystem has grown rapidly in the past few years, garnering global recognition and attention. The Houston Energy and Climate Startup Week is both a celebration of this energy-transition ecosystem and an opportunity to drive further collaborations to advance the development, funding, and deployment of the cutting-edge climate technologies being developed here.

WHAT EVENTS IS GREENTOWN HOSTING?
Greentown is hosting two events during the week: Stories of Climate Impact: From Schools to Startups on Sept. 11 and our first-ever Climate Impact Awards Dinner on Sept. 13.

The awards dinner is a semi-formal event celebrating our 75+ startups’ impact that will feature a cocktail hour and sit-down dinner, a distinguished speaker, music and dancing, and a silent auction. It will also honor Greentown members in various award categories, as voted on by their fellow members.

Greentown Labs is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit accelerating climatetech innovation and commercialization by empowering entrepreneurs and enabling collaboration. The Climate Impact Awards Dinner is Greentown Houston’s largest fundraising event and helps make our work possible.

EarthEn received a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) award from the National Science Foundation to advance its sCO2-based, thermo-mechanical, long-duration-energy-storage system.
Boxes is deploying its innovative retail devices at the University of Arkansas, in partnership with SC Johnson.
Greentown alum Ohmium, a developer of electrolyzer systems for green hydrogen production, received an investment from 3M.

Aug. 22: Transition On Tap [Greentown Houston]
Join our summer Transition On Tap, Greentown Houston’s signature networking event devoted to fostering conversations and connections among the climate and energy transition ecosystem in Houston and beyond. At this event, we'll also highlight what's in store for the first-ever Houston Energy and Climate Startup Week.

Aug. 27: Investor Education Workshop: Impact Investing [Greentown Houston]
Later this month is the final 2024 workshop of the Houston Ion District Investor Activation Program! This insightful panel discussion will delve into impact investing, exploring how both seasoned and aspiring early-stage venture investors in Houston can define and measure impact.

Sept. 5: ACCEL Year 2 Showcase [Greentown Houston]
Celebrate the second year of ACCEL, an accelerator program for BIPOC-led startups from Greentown and Browning the Green Space! This event will feature the seven participating startups’ technologies, what they’ve accomplished in the first six months of the program, and where they’re headed next.

Sept. 19: Carbon to Value Initiative Year 4 Kickoff [Greentown Houston]
Year 4 of the Carbon to Value Initiative is kicking off this September! Join us to meet the startups that were selected for this year’s cohort, hear from industry experts, and network with the carbontech ecosystem.

Sept. 20-22: TEX-E Bootcamp for Climatetech Entrepreneurship [Greentown Houston]
Attention students: join the Texas Exchange for Energy and Climate Entrepreneurship (TEX-E) for its annual bootcamp, where participating students, faculty, and staff from Texas universities will learn from leading academic minds in the field of energy innovation and work together on collaborative projects that could be the genesis of new enterprises. Apply to the bootcamp by Sept. 1!

Oct. 22 and 24: Climatetech Summit [Greentown Houston + Greentown Boston]
Join us on Oct. 22 at Greentown Houston, Oct. 24 at Greentown Boston, and both days via livestream for the ultimate celebration of climate-focused entrepreneurship and innovation, replete with startup pitches, networking opportunities, and industry insights.
