As summer heats up, we're getting ready for an exciting events lineup!

Join us on Aug. 22 for our summer Transition On Tap, Greentown Houston's signature networking event devoted to fostering conversations and connections among the climate and energy transition ecosystem, in Houston and beyond. At this event, attendees will learn about the inaugural Houston Energy and Climate Startup Week (Sept. 9-13), which Greentown is proudly launching with Halliburton Labs and The Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship. Greentown's anchor event during this week will be Stories of Climate Impact: From Schools to Startups on Sept. 11, featuring the entrepreneurs and students leading the energy transition.

This September is also the ACCEL Year 2 Showcase, a celebration of the seven startups that participated in the second iteration of Greentown and Browning the Green Space's accelerator for BIPOC-led climatetech startups; join us on Sept. 5 to hear from the startups and learn what they've accomplished in the first six months of the program.

And October brings our biggest event of the year—Greentown Houston's Climatetech Summit! This event on Oct. 22 is the ultimate celebration of climate-focused entrepreneurship and innovation, replete with startup pitches, networking opportunities, and industry insights. Meet our Newest Members

BiaTech Corporation is a multisensory AI fusion startup for energy and natural resource infrastructure immersion. Its technology is helping energy and utilities to produce more from less and lower risks of production disruptions.

GS Vortex Systems’ hydrodynamic flow technology reduces flow resistance, allowing higher flow through existing pipes and leading to productivity gains and reduced unit emissions.

Metalex delivers carbon-neutral critical metals by processing mined material within a decarbonized supply chain, offsetting its emissions by developing forestry conservation and afforestation projects for carbon credits, and selling surplus credits to others in its industry.

TDS Select is pioneering a modular, scalable water-treatment technology that utilizes flow-electrode capacitive deionization to desalinate brackish water. This process uses low energy, doesn’t require antiscalant chemicals, and produces exponentially higher water recovery compared to existing systems.

Member Milestones

Hertha Metals—a startup reducing the steelmaking process’s emissions by 95 percent—took home the top prize of $100,000 at the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2024 Summer Energy Program for Innovation Clusters (EPIC) Startup Pitch Competition.
Greentown members Capwell and Corrolytics and Carbon to Value Initiative Year 3 participant Mitico were accepted to the Rice Alliance Clean Energy Accelerator Cohort 4.
Boxes, which is building a retail platform that sustainably provides people access to essential products, partnered with Unilever to launch its in-store devices.
Haffner Energy, a startup developing technology for the next generation of clean fuels and renewable gasses, announced its new Sustainable Aviation Fuel project, Paris-Vatry SAF, which aims to decarbonize air transport.
Greentown alum Fervo Energy announced a partnership with Google, where Google will run data centers using electricity generated by the geothermal energy startup’s Nevada plant.
Solidec, whose electrolyzer platform captures carbon and manufactures chemicals using only air, water, and renewable electricity, was named to the second cohort of Rice University's Lilie Summer Venture Studio.

Last Chance to Apply to the Carbon to Value Initiative!

Applications are closing soon for Year 4 of the Carbon to Value Initiative—a collaboration from the Urban Future Lab at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, Greentown, and Fraunhofer USA designed to catalyze a thriving carbontech ecosystem. For this year’s accelerator cohort, we’re looking for startups at TRL 4-7 that are developing carbontech solutions across carbon conversion to added-value products, carbon capture, and carbon sequestration and removal. Startup Spotlight

AtmoSpark Technologies, an ACCEL Year 2 participant, is developing atmospheric water generation systems that provide constant freshwater to those with limited access or in remote locations worldwide. Its product, BluElement, is a portable water generator that uses electro-condensation technology to produce clean drinking water and enhances water-production efficiency. ICYMI: The First TEX-E Internships

Climatetech internships are critical, both to provide students a pathway into the industry and to support the small teams at early-stage startups. And to promote equity, these internships must be paid opportunities.

To meet this important industry need, Texas Exchange for Energy and Climate Entrepreneurship (TEX-E)—a collaboration among Texas universities powered by Greentown and MIT’s Martin Trust Center for entrepreneurship—developed the TEX-E Internship Program. The program kicked off this summer and provides paid student internships with Greentown Houston startups.

This year’s internships are with Biosfera, CalWave, Capwell, and Corrolytics and feature students from the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Houston, and Rice University!
