Greentown Houston opened on Earth Day 2021, and this month we’re inviting you to a special Transition On Tap to celebrate our fourth anniversary!

The April 29 event will feature startup perspectives on developing and scaling climatetech in Houston. Join us to hear from longtime members Ian Bishop, founder and president of Elemental Advanced Materials, and Dr. Tara Karimi, co-founder and chief science & sustainability officer of Cemvita! We’re excited to have Jane Stricker—a Greentown board member and the Houston Energy Transition Initiative’s senior VP, energy transition & executive director—provide remarks.

This Transition On Tap will also offer the opportunity to network with key leaders from throughout the region’s energy-transition ecosystem. We hope to see you there!

Nine Greentown members and alumni from both our locations were chosen for Third Derivative’s newest cohort: Carbon Negative Solutions, CERT Systems, Eden, Elementium Materials, Hertha Metals, MicroEra Power, Mitico, NOC Energy, and Via Separations.
Greentown alum Fervo Energy signed a 15-year power purchase agreement for 31 MW of 24/7 carbon-free geothermal power with Greentown partner Shell Energy North America.
Carbon to Value Initiative alum Capture6, which removes carbon from the atmosphere while producing clean water and other industrial products from saltwater, raised $27.5M between a Series A and project financing.

Everyone still believes in the urgent need to decarbonize, but the playbook is changing. Funding is harder to get, policies are shifting, and more than ever startups need to prove they can make money, not just make an impact.
The funding crunch is forcing discipline. Startups that have tightened operations, focused on customer revenue, and pursued capital-efficient models are thriving.
Some sectors may emerge as bipartisan winners. Grid resilience, domestic critical minerals, and nuclear energy were highlighted as areas where policy support could endure.
