Happy July! Greentown’s startups don’t slow down in the summer, and neither do we—we have a host of member news, upcoming events, and startup stories to share with you.

We’re also excited to let you know about two new ways you can support Greentown, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to accelerate climatetech innovation and commercialization by empowering entrepreneurs and enabling collaboration.

The first is our inaugural Climate Impact Awards Dinner, taking place Sept. 13 to close out the first-ever Houston Energy and Climate Startup Week, of which Greentown is a lead partner. This semi-formal fundraising event will celebrate the impact of Greentown Houston’s 75+ startups, honoring members in categories including “Top Startup to Watch,” “Community Champion,” “Deployment of the Year,” and more, as voted on by Greentown’s startup community. Attendees will enjoy a cocktail hour and sit-down dinner, a distinguished speaker, music and dancing, and a silent auction.

The Climate Impact Awards Dinner is Greentown Houston’s largest fundraising event and helps make our work possible. You can support this fundraiser by:

What does climate action look like? Climatetech startups receiving funding, winning awards, deploying their tech around the world, and more! Read a roundup of our members’ recent milestones here and check out some highlights below:

Sublime Systems, a startup decarbonizing cement-making, announced a sale of 2,000 tons of cement to Vineyard Offshore, the parent company of Greentown partner Vineyard Wind.
Clean Crop Technologies, which uses its Clean Current technology to remove contaminants from seed and food surfaces, received a $1.2M grant from the Massachusetts Manufacturing Innovation Initiative.
Greentown alum Fervo Energy announced 320MW of power purchase agreements (PPAs) with utility Southern California Edison. The two PPAs are the world’s largest yet for advanced geothermal and can provide clean power for the equivalent of 350,000 homes across southern California.
Capture6, a Carbon to Value Initiative Year 3 participant, will collaborate with Greentown partner Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions to deploy its carbon-removal tech into Veolia’s integrated water-management systems.
Singularity Energy announced a joint collaboration with Southern Company, the second-largest utility in the United States, to implement its carbon- and clean-energy-management platform.
BERKM received a $274k SBIR Phase I award from the National Science Foundation to advance its clay-based additive, which reduces the amount of plastic used in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging by up to 20 percent.
Greentown alum ZwitterCo, developer of advanced water-treatment membranes, raised a $58.4M Series B.

GigaDAC is fundamentally changing how direct-air-capture is done with an innovation that uses a spray to bind to CO₂—a system that is six times more efficient than conventional air-filtration methods. Read more.

Throughout Greentown Go Build 2023, Saint-Gobain worked closely with six building tech startups to advance innovations for circularity and decarbonization of the built environment. Learn about collaborations from the program, which included integration testing, pilot studies, market exploration, and more.

ACCEL Year 2 startup Aquasaic is harnessing biology to provide clean water access for human and planetary health. Its genetically engineered yeast captures heavy metals such as lead, mercury, and zinc from various water sources. Watch its co-founder Nikita Patil’s pitch.

Aug. 22: Transition On Tap [Greentown Houston]
Join our summer Transition On Tap, Greentown Houston’s signature networking event devoted to fostering conversations and connections among the climate and energy transition ecosystem in Houston and beyond.

Sept. 5: ACCEL Year 2 Showcase [Greentown Houston]
Celebrate the second year of ACCEL, an accelerator program for BIPOC-led startups from Greentown and Browning the Green Space! This event will feature the seven participating startups’ technologies, what they’ve accomplished in the first six months of the program, and where they’re headed next.

Sept. 11: Stories of Climate Impact: From Schools to Startups [Greentown Houston]
As part of the inaugural Houston Energy and Climate Startup Week, join Greentown to recognize and celebrate the impact of startups and universities in mitigating climate change and building resilient communities.

Sept. 12: Climatetech Career Fair [Greentown Boston]
The Greentown Boston 2024 Career Fair, put on in partnership with Wells Fargo Innovation Incubator (IN²), will help job seekers learn about career opportunities with our community of world-changing climatetech startups.

Sept. 13: Climate Impact Awards Dinner [Outpost at POST Houston]

Sept. 20-22: TEX-E Bootcamp for Climatetech Entrepreneurship [Greentown Houston]
Attention students: join the Texas Exchange for Energy and Climate Entrepreneurship (TEX-E) for its annual bootcamp, where participating students, faculty, and staff from Texas universities will learn from leading academic minds in the field of energy innovation and work together on collaborative projects that could be the genesis of new enterprises.
